What Are My Options?
With all the advertisements that are out there for LASIK and other vision correction procedures it can be very confusing and difficult to figure out "What is best for me?" Vision Correction surgery is not like buying a hat where one size fits most. At Temas Eye Center we can help you decide what would be the best option for your eyes, by customizing each procedure to fit each individual person.
LASIK is still the most common of the vision correction surgeries. Dr. Temas has performed LASIK for over 10 years and has performed thousands of procedures. Our goal is to maximize results by reducing complications. Correcting nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness, LASIK helps reduce your dependency on your glasses for distance vision. However, if you wear reading glasses or bifocals, you need to know that LASIK will not restore reading vision.
Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL) are designed for the nearsighted patients who are not LASIK candidates. This technology has been around for a few decades, and was approved by the FDA for use about 3 years ago. Dr. Temas implants a contact shaped implant inside the eye that does not alter the eye's structure which allows the patient freedom from glasses like they have never had before. Plus the implant can be removed for future vision correction surgeries. Dr. Temas was the first surgeon in the area to implant these new lenses. This procedure will also not help with your reading vision if you wear bifocals.
Clear Lens Extraction (CLE) is where the natural lens of the eye is removed with gentle ultrasound, identical to a cataract surgery. Then a Multifocal Implant is place inside the eye, which can correct distance and reading vision. Ultrasound technology has been used for at least 20 years and in the past 3-4 years, multifocal lenses have become very popular. This surgery is designed for patients that want vision correction for reading as well as distance. This procedure works for nearsighted and farsighted patients but cannot correct larger amounts of astigmatism. Clear Lens Extraction is a permanent procedure and as a benefit, cataracts will never form.
So whether you have to wear glasses for distance only, or bifocals, we have options that can fit almost anyone's lifestyle.
